Client

As a Swiss fintech startup entering the European market, our client developed a web-based payment platform for corporate users, allowing businesses to manage multiple bank accounts, transactions, and financial operations through a centralized dashboard. To ensure a successful launch, everything from functionality to security and compliance had to be tested in detail.

Project overview

Don’t let bugs stand in the way of your success.

    Before

    • Chaotic, ad-hoc testing
    • Reactive bug fixing
    • Unverified API endpoints
    • Limited test documentation

    After

    • Structured QA process
    • Proactive defect prevention
    • All API endpoints checked
    • Complete test coverage

    Project Duration

    6 months

    Team Composition

3 Manual QAs, 1 Automation QA, 1 API Tester, 1 QA Lead

    Challenge

When the client approached us, the product was still in active development, with frequent internal releases but no structured QA process in place. Testing activities were performed inconsistently, without formal regression cycles, defined release gates, or comprehensive documentation. For a corporate-focused financial platform operating in the European market, this created significant delivery and security risks.

In addition to stabilizing functionality, the platform required banking-grade validation of payment flows, API integrations, and role-based access controls. Ensuring secure data handling, preventing unauthorized transaction actions, and maintaining cross-platform consistency were critical components of effective fintech testing and finance software testing for this solution.

    Key challenges included:

EU data protection requirements and compliance considerations (KYC, AML, GDPR)

    • Absence of a defined QA strategy and structured release process
    • No comprehensive test documentation, checklists, or regression suite
    • Rapid feature changes requiring constant test case updates
    • Complex multi-account payment and invoice workflows
    • Role-based access logic with approval flows and permission boundaries
    • Risk of unauthorized actions through direct API endpoint access
    • Cross-browser and cross-platform UI inconsistencies on web and mobile
    • Need for early security confirmation in a financial-grade product

    Solutions

To bring the product to release readiness, we introduced a structured QA framework tailored to corporate payments, where accuracy, access control, and secure handling of financial actions are critical. We built predictable test coverage, introduced release gates, and ensured every iteration was verified through repeatable regression cycles.

Alongside functional validation, we strengthened areas that typically create the highest risk in finance software testing and banking software testing: role-based access control, API endpoint protection, cross-browser UI stability, and baseline security verification. This approach helped the client stabilize frequent releases while improving confidence in the final release candidate.

    Key solutions:

    • Security-focused automation support. Used a Java-based automation setup to repeat key security validations and improve stability during frequent updates.
    • QA process setup. Established testing strategy, built categorized checklists from scratch, introduced mandatory pre-release regression, and standardized bug reporting in Jira.
    • Role-based access validation. Verified permission boundaries for managers vs employees, including restricted actions, approval flows, and access to sensitive financial data.
    • End-to-end functional testing. Tested core user journeys: account linking, balance review, payment creation and tracking, recipient management, and invoice handling.
    • API testing & authorization checks. Validated banking API endpoints in Postman and ensured direct endpoint access could not bypass registration, authentication, or transaction restrictions.
    • Cross-platform & cross-browser testing. Ensured consistent UI and correct behavior across Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and multiple Windows/macOS/Android combinations.
    • Baseline security & penetration testing. Performed automated vulnerability scanning and penetration checks to identify high-risk issues before launch.
    • Release reporting & quality metrics. Delivered structured release reports with defect stats and readiness status for each release candidate.

    Types of testing

    Functional testing

Verifying end-to-end payment flows and critical financial operations.

    UI/UX Testing

Ensuring intuitive navigation and consistent financial dashboard behavior.

    Cross-platform testing

Confirming stable performance across browsers and operating systems.

    API testing

Testing banking endpoints and enforcing strict authorization controls.

    Security testing

Identifying vulnerabilities in authentication and transaction mechanisms.

    Regression testing

Rechecking critical features after updates to maintain release stability.

    Results

Within six months, the platform transitioned from unstructured testing to a controlled, metrics-driven QA process aligned with fintech testing best practices. The client gained predictable release cycles, documented coverage, and measurable quality indicators before every internal release candidate.

By combining structured finance software testing with targeted banking software testing activities, we reduced pre-launch risk exposure, stabilized rapid development cycles, and ensured the product was ready for secure entry into the European corporate market.
