Challenge
Our client for this project is one of the best-known eCommerce stores dealing with natural products and healthy living. It’s a US-based company that operates on a global scale with over 30k products in its inventory that are shipped to millions of customers in more than 185 countries.
The company was getting ready for the release of the new mobile app for iOS and Android, as well as the updated version of the website that would better match its growing presence in the industry and could serve its customers more comprehensively. The client reached out to us with a request to provide a dedicated team for quality assurance and retail application testing.
Since the app was planned for release on web, iOS, and Android platforms, our team had to make sure the new version provided flawless functionality and an aesthetically pleasing, enjoyable experience across all target platforms. We also had to verify the correct localization in all the available languages, as well as shipping and payment methods.
Therefore, one of the biggest challenges of this project was to provide eCommerce testing for every possible combination of platforms and localization settings, and ensure spotless performance in every possible situation.
Solution
As a company with several successfully completed eCommerce website testing and retail app testing projects in our portfolio, we understand the importance and specifics of software testing for retail like no other. This is why, after familiarizing ourselves with the project requirements and its scale, we knew immediately what we had to do.
TestFort provided the company with a dedicated testing team experienced in eCommerce QA testing outsourcing. The team synergized with in-house devs in no time using Jira as a bug tracking solution, and started on the tasks. Our team carried out requirements analysis, test design, test execution, and prepared defect reports.
Our engineers conducted seven different types of testing, including functional, regression, and usability testing, to find and eliminate the issues and inconsistencies in the app’s back end and front end. We applied Dr. James Whittaker’s Exploratory Testing Tours technique which helped us locate and fix some critical bugs during exploratory testing. We also performed cross-platform and cross-browser testing to make sure the app performed well on every combination of devices and operating systems, and used Charles Proxy as a proxy server for web debugging.
Overall, up to eight Manual QA engineers plus a Team Lead worked on this project at its different stages. By using our eCommerce website testing expertise and building a fruitful communication with the client’s in-house team, we have been able to spot many critical issues, and have been regularly using regression testing to verify the state of the application after the issues were resolved.
