Functional Testing

The client contacted us when they were finishing working on another update of their product with a request to perform comprehensive testing of the whole solution, test the tickets supplied by the development team, and then perform complete regression testing of all basic functionality, even if it was not affected by the changes in the code.

One of the main challenges of the project was the fact that the solution works with a large variety of databases (including SQL and MongoDB-based ones), which meant that knowledge of the database technology was integral for testing the product correctly.

Moreover, there were over twenty databases deployed on the client’s side, which sometimes posed an additional challenge for us because we couldn’t quickly access those databases in case there were any hiccups in their operation. Our productive cooperation with the client’s team, including the Product Architect, helped us overcome this challenge by establishing a fast response procedure for these situations.

The client’s product for this project, a test management tool, was designed to be integrated with Jira and other issue tracking applications. After a series of updates, the client needed to make sure that the updated version of the product could be released and retained all of the functionality users had come to expect. Specifically, our scope of tasks included:

• Verifying the existing functionality
• Checking the presence of all UI elements
• Making sure that each UI element delivers the anticipated response
• Testing the compatibility of the solution with different platforms
• Confirming the correct localization of the product in four new languages
• Ensuring proper integration of the solution with third-party tools

The major challenge on this project was connected within its timeline constraints. For example, our team had to create a large number of test cases (200+) from scratch in limited time. Another challenge was to plan and test all the possible integrations of the product with third-party solutions.

Our client for this project is a company providing banking and financial services in the Middle East. This is a well-known institution with over 50 years of history and over 140 physical branches in 8 countries. A few years ago, the company ventured into the digital realm by developing and releasing a banking application for its users.

The company decided to outsource the testing part of the project, and, after being referred to TestFort by our former client from the banking sector and seeing our portfolio of fintech projects, entrusted their QA needs to us.

By the time the client contacted us for the project, the application had already successfully operated in its home country for several years. However, this year, the company started planning to expand its presence to a new location in the region and decided to update and enhance the original application to better serve customers in the new market. Moreover, the updated application had to fit advanced security requirements, as well as usability and legal regulations, so there was a considerable chunk of work being done by the development team. 

During the initial discussions, the client pointed out the most important aspects of the upcoming testing project. Specifically, they needed an application that had an appealing user interface, delivered spotles

The client already had a design for the future app, but the technical part of the project was entirely on us. We were tasked with creating a solution that:

• Would work equally well on any desktop or mobile device;
• Could handle large amounts of data because of the constantly increasing number of partners and available samples;
• Would ensure a seamless ordering process using QR codes;
• Could be easily scaled to match growing business needs;
• Was strong enough to handle an unexpectedly high number of simultaneous users — for example, during exhibitions and other public events.

By the time we received the request from the client, there already was an existing solution with some functionality. However, it was created using outdated technologies, many of which are no longer supported by the developers. So, our team was tasked with developing a web app solution from scratch. The objectives of the project included:

• Get rid of the old unproductive way of retrieving specifications from spreadsheets;
• Speed up the dimensions and cost calculations;
• Discontinue the use of deprecated technologies;
• Ensure rapid and smooth scalability;
• Correctly visualize different shower solutions and specifications despite not having physical access to them;
• Provide customers with an engaging user experience;
• Integrate the client’s existing CRM into the new solution.

The main challenge we’ve faced was the necessity to quickly set up a range of public and private GitHub instances with different sharing options. The goal was to verify all major CI/CD user scenarios within a limited period of time. 

This was our first-ever testing experience for this product, and working with an unfamiliar solution can often be challenging. Moreover, there was already a large number of test cases created by the previous team working on the project, and because these test cases were written for a different environment, it took us time and effort to incorporate the cases into our work.

Our main challenge was to review and update existing test cases in the scope of this project prior to executing them. We had to review test cases for both bug fixes and smoke verification, check their consistency, and make necessary updates. All of that, including executing those tests and documenting new bugs, had to be done within a short period of time. 

The client approached us to perform quality assurance on the product over six years ago, when the solution had a bare minimum of functionality and was in its early stages. Our team was tasked with automating the tests from the ground up, which is a challenge of its own, as there were barely any contributions from the manual QA team to base our work upon. Other key objectives and challenges for this project included:

• Developing a comprehensive testing strategy from scratch, given that there was little to no documentation at the start of the project;
• Creating in-depth integration tests to check how the core solution interacts with additional products it’s paired with;
• Finding an effective way to work with large databases that are constantly getting bigger;
• Checking how accurately the application calculates the time and money spent on cloud services within one event;

Our customer is an American radio streaming service that delivers radio station feeds and podcasts to over 75 million monthly active users. With over 100k radio stations and 4m podcasts, this service is one of the largest in the world. The application is available as a web app, mobile app, desktop client, and in-vehicle infotainment devices.

Our team was tasked with providing testing and QA services to ensure that the application maintains its quality with a faster release cycle.

The main idea and the biggest challenge of the project was to expand the audience of the streaming service so that more people can get access to interesting and engaging content. Moreover, our team came on board when the product was already well-known in the market and highly regarded by the users, so we had to not only maintain the quality of the app at the level they’ve come to expect, but also further improve the user experience to strengthen customer loyalty.
